Can you believe that the 1st month of 2021 is nearly over? In fact it just feels like a continuation of 2020 – schools closed, level 3 restrictions in place, social distancing plus plus masks!
What is Pantone Color?
When people talk about Pantone colors, usually they’re referring to the color specified in the Pantone Matching System (PMS). This is a proprietary, standardized color system used across many industries in manufacturing, which describes colors by an allocated number (e.g. “PMS 129”).
Why are Pantone Colors so Popular?
The Pantone Color System is the most important color matching system in the world. The system originated in 1963 to solve the problem of complicated color matching in the printing industry. Every color, in every tone and tint, was given a number to classify it. Pantone literally wrote the book on color matching.
How do the Pantone Colors Affect Marketing?
The Pantone Color Institute studies color trends throughout the year in order to decide on the next Pantone Color of the Year. They take into consideration all aspects of society: fashion, marketing, social media and even politics. The hue chosen as Color of the Year has become increasingly influential in the vast world of design and brand marketing.
The first Color of the Year was selected back in 2000, but it wasn’t until 2007 that the color trend forecasting took on a life of its own. Nowadays, when a new color is announced, Pantone offers color lovers an array of inspirational products and color combination palettes designed especially with the corresponding color in mind. Hundreds of brands take on the task of designing products with the Color of the Year. This reinforces the importance of how the Pantone color trend forecast is important and influential.
Pantone Colors 2021
Every year new colors are released – this year 2021 – two colors were chosen. PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating. These are two independent colors that highlight how different elements come together to support one another which is used to express the mood for Pantone Color of the Year 2021. Practical and rock solid (gray) but at the same time warming and optimistic (yellow). The union of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating is one of strength and positivity.
It is a story of color that encapsulates deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the promise of something sunny and friendly.
