As a makeup artist, I work on people of all ages, skin types and tones. The first step to great makeup is skincare. Your skin type has to be determined so that you can be matched to a suitable foundation. Once that is out of the way you have to identify the problem areas you would like to conceal such as dark under eyes, pigmentation, sunspots etc. you may need a concealer but if your foundation has enough coverage you can use your foundation as a concealer by dabbing on a little extra in the areas it is needed.
Below are the Makeup Tips for Mature Skin:
As one age, your skin loses its natural glow and colour. Therefore it is so important to add colour with blusher. Do not opt for a pink blusher, as older women tend to go red easily but rather a peachy tone for fair skins and rust to rose tone for deeper skin tones. A slight brush of blusher onto the apples of the cheeks up to the cheekbones will add a beautiful glow to the face.
When it comes to lips, many women find lipstick bleeds easily. My top tip is to powder the lips with a loose powder, then line, apply lipstick, blot and apply a little more lipstick to the center of the lips. This will improve the longevity of your lip colour.
Eyebrows can make or break a face. Sounds harsh but it is true. Look for a pencil that compliments the root of your hair. Always start filling in from the center of the brow rather than the inner corner of the brow, as this will create a more natural looking brow. Only fill in as much as you need. Drawing on a new set of brown may not always be the most flattering thing.
Eyeshadow. People always say mature women should stay away from glittery shadow. I disagree. Older women can wear eyeshadow that has sparkle, but try and make sure that it is more of a sheen than a glittery shine. A bit of sparkle on the lid brightens and opens the eyes.
Brown eye pencil works on all skin tones and is very flattering. Black liner can look quite harsh on older skin types, but brown liner can be used any time during the day and night and still give a lovely effect without it looking overdone.
